On the eve of World Oceans Day, SEAMAR's first public-participation activity came to life at the Marmaris Municipality Children's Council.
We came together to talk about the sea
At the event held on 6 June 2026, on behalf of KAGED we joined the Marmaris Municipality Children's Council to tell children and young people about Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows. We shared why seagrass meadows matter so much, how the erosion and sedimentation that increased after the fires threaten these fragile ecosystems, and how we can protect Marmaris Bay together.
The presentation went beyond simply transferring information, laying the ground for children and young people to build an emotional bond with the sea. Participants discovered just how fragile — and how precious — the sea right at their feet really is.
Know it first, start from the very beginning
This activity was the first step to embody SEAMAR's core approach: to protect the sea, you first have to know it — and to know it, you have to start from the very beginning, with children.
